honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:

today my topic is ’nuclear power: a blessing or a disaster?’

when the first atomic bomb was dropped on hiroshima, japan, the world was thrust into atomic age. meanwhile in the commence of cold war and during its long term, it had set the world into fear and panic of nuclear war many times.

but over the years, nuclear power has found its way to promote goodness for humankind .it promises to provide clean and efficient energy for the centuries to come.

so whether nuclear power a blessing or a disaster?

there is no firm answer for this question from my own perspective.

ladies and gentlemen, my very initial contact with nuclear power was from a tv programme called green space where i saw for the first time how nuclear power had changed people’s lives and what it had left for the residents’ living around chyrnobil nuclear power plant. unfortunately, it was a sad story.

my heart sank when i saw a boy infant appear on the screen smiling with big blue sparkling eyes. he was so cute and adorable just like all the other kids but he was blinded. what’s more, he had to receive medical treatment everyday to alleviate radiation damage, but still stood little chance of growing up. later i learned that inappropriate operation and equipment design defect was responsible for the tradegy .eight years has past, but the picture of that boy’s smile still appears infront of me and reminds me that nuclear power can be a living devil.

however, with the increasing depletion of resources and the instant demand for energy, clean and efficient nuclear power may seem the best choice.

as an old saying goes ’every sword has two blades.’ nuclear power is dangerous, yet efficient; environmental devastated yet clean; expensive yet sustainable. it is a matter of how we use and how we treat it. while let’s beyond all this ,whether nuclear power a blessing or a disaster, it’s ours’ choice.

thank you for listening!

I don't think so. printed books won't be abandoned in such a short time. i admit that new technology is developing fast.

Many advanced electronic products are gradually take the place of traditional tools. just like in university, teachers like to use multimedia in class for it is quite convenient and efficient. however, for our student, it is not realistic to study completely by electronic products.

There are many things need to recorded on books. books are something meaningful and practical. i should say, in our country, printed books wouldn't be abandoned within 20 years at least for two reasons.

Firstly, books are classical container of knowledge. they accompany human to advance. a student without books could be someway ridiculous.

Secondly, our country haven't developed so strong to make every student study by computer or other forms of electronic tools. and even after 20 years, the possibility is also very small.

I also think it is unnecessary because books are cheap but useful and still meaningful.

There are four.)

Which one? The red one.

Hello, Tom! What‘s the weather like today? What‘s the weather like today?

Change The Unchangeable—You Will When You Believe

Good evening, ladies and gentleman! It’s my great honor to be here giving this speech to you. Thank you so much. My topic of the speech is change the unchangeable-you will when you believe!

You may often hear this when it comes to keeping a positive attitude towards your daily life, ‘‘change the changeable, and accept the unchangeable.” Of course, this is an easy way to avoid panic when meeting with difficult situations. However, I am going to share with you a totally different opinion about dealing with obstacles and having a successful life. That is, change the unchangeable, and you will when you believe.

In our daily life, there are so many things which we considered as the unchangeable. For example, you think you cannot remember all the English words. You think its impossible to be the number one in your class because many students are doing better than you. And also you do not believe that you can change the world by yourself. But now, I am telling you, all of these are not true. There is a chance that you can change the so-called unchangeable things. It’s not a hard as it looks like. All you need to do is to be confident, believing in yourself that you can do it.

In this world, there are two kinds of animals that can climb to the top of the pyramid. One is the eagle, its wings can help it fly to the top of the pyramid easily. The other is the snail, no one believes the snail can do such unchangeable things. But the snail itself believes. Just like water constantly dripping wears holes in stone. Step by step, the confidence and persistence finally help the snail manage to arrive at the top of the pyramid.

The unchangeable things, just like a wall that prevents us from seeing through the essence of life and exploring the colorful world. But confidence can give us courage to break that wall, and a strong will can finally get us there. When meeting with the unchangeable things next time, face it with confidence. Believing that you can do it under any circumstances. As long as we are confident enough to pursue our future dream with great passion and courage, we will make a difference!

Nothing is difficult to a willing heart. Change the unchangeable-you will when you believe!

Lesson objectives:

1。Guide students to learn about the usage of auxiliaries used in identifying.

2。Make sure that students can make dialogues with the following patterns: You must have been …/ She can't have been …/ She may/might have done …/ You might have done …/ He couldn't have done … etc.

3。Train students' ability of observing things, and describing a certain situation in detail.

Teaching aids: a multi-media computer, a recorder, word cards, etc.

Teaching procedure:

Step1。Preparation

1。Revision

Do a word game to review the words in Unit 21 and in this way, lead in some words in this lesson so as to see whether the students have previewed these new words.

Directions: Ask one student to come to the front. Let him/her explain the meaning of the word or phrase on the word card shown by the teacher. But the other students can't see the word card. They may guess it through his /her explanation. (He /She can explain the word in language, through gestures or body languages, but he couldn't include any part of the word or phrase).

Words or phrases shown on the cards: wedding, generation, hammer, iron, hero, note, memory, familiar, single, tale, servant, revolutionary.

2。Presentation

Ask the students to list some revolutions. Teacher can ask: Do you know any revolutionaries or wars in the world history? (Yes.) Can you name some of them?

The Ss may offer the answers like: the Anti-Japanese War, the American Revolution, the American Civil War, the French Revolution and even the Industrial Revolution.

Then teacher directs the Ss to say something about the French Revolution. When did it break out? (In 1789.) What was the cause of the revolution? (Some peasants and oppressed people ran into the Bastille.) Did they win the revolution? (Not , but shook the foundation of the Monarchy 君主_, also showed the strength of the Newly born Bourgeoisie 新兴资产阶级.)

It doesn't matter if the Ss cannot give proper answers to all the questions. Teacher may give them a few minutes for discussion, so that they can talk about it.

Teacher's conclusion: You see, not all the revolution can win in the end, but it must have some effect on the world. So was the French Revolution. And an English novelist wrote a story about this famous event、Do you know the novelist and the name of the book? (Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities.)

Teacher may continue: Yes, the dialogue we are going to read just happened at such a time. It was between a revolutionary and his friend.

Step2。The body of the lesson

1。Listening

Get the Ss to look at the picture on the Page 55, SB, and say: Watch carefully and tell me what you can see in the picture. (A castle, a farmer on a cart, two soldiers… there are two feet on the cart.) What do you think was happening? (They must be the feet of the revolutionary./ He might be found by the soldiers./ He must be in the cart hiding from the soldiers, and he must succeed…)

Then let the Ss listen to the tape with two questions:

Did the revolutionary get into the castle? (Yes, he did.)/ What did he do then? (He asked a servant to help him and they set fire to the castle.)

2。Drill

Get the Ss to read the dialogue in pairs. While the Ss are practising, the teacher should walk around and correct their pronunciation as necessary. Then ask some pairs to present the dialogue to the class.

3。Comprehension

1) Let the Ss read the dialogue carefully again, and try to find some more detailed questions to ask in pairs.

Possible questions and answers:

(1)How did B got into the castle?

(He hid in a farmer's cart which was taking vegetables into the castle.)

(2)What did the servant do when he was waiting by the kitchen door?

(She opened the door to fetch some wood.)

(3)Why didn't the servant call for help?

(She was brave; she understood what B was talking about and she knew that the rich were the enemies of the people of France.)

2) Word formation: Check the noun form of each adj. (Ex. Ⅱ in AB)

Revolutionary adj. & n.

mad n.

brave n.

cruel n.

Answer: revolution, madness, bravery, cruelty

3)Deal with the grammar: auxiliaries used in identifying.

Ask the Ss to make sentences according to the following pictures with the above patterns. (Ex. Ⅲ in AB)

Examples:

Picture1: He might have caught a bad cold.

Picture2: He couldn't have found any letters in the mailbox.

Picture3: He couldn't have found the right way there.

Picture4: He must have been drawing pictures.

Step 3。Consolidation

1。Practice

1) Match the two parts to make the sentences acceptable. (Ex. Ⅳ in AB)

(1)I was still working in the office at ten o'clock last Sunday evening.

(2)It took me two hours to get there.

(3)I phoned him many times yesterday, but I couldn't get through.

F。She must have been unhappy with you.

Answers:(1) ----D (2) ----A (3) ----E (4) ----B (5) ----C (6) ----F

Unity and Diversity -- Common Progress in Different Regions

In recent years, the development of the Chinese economy has been incredibly fast, some might even call it miraculous. But behind the miracles lies a problem: the development is unbalanced in different regions.

Under the strategy of the Chinese government, China has three major economic regions: the east, the middle and the west. With its advantageous position, the east is the fastest developing area, leaving the west far behind, and the middle somewhere in between. For instance, the GDP per capita in the east amounts to US$2000, while that of the west is only 40% of the east.

Furthermore, the gap between the urban and the rural, according to the State Statistical Bureau, has widened to more than 10 years. There are people in the big cities with large houses, expensive cars, other luxuries and better opportunities. However, there are people in the countryside, living on meager food, without the security of health, education, and so on.

This is the diversity of the Chinese economy. For the unity of the full national economic development, governments of all levels have decided on corresponding strategies, for example, the greater development of the western region, the continuing rise of the central China, and the faster development of the east. Specifically, within the west, provinces alike have established programs of development, with financial and technological aid of the central government, ma-ki-ng full use of the western natural resources. Such strategies have turned out to be remarkably successful.

It reminds me of the world. There are wealthy countries in North America and Europe; there are poor ones in Asia and Africa. The aid from the rich world is far from enough to remove poverty in the developing countries. Therefore, with the help of funds, technology, and management from wealthy countries, these developing countries now have the opportunity to establish their own right strategies of development, taking full advantage of their natural and human resources.

If their strategies succeed, in the years to come, I hope to see such a world: everyone, white or black, brown or yellow, can stand side by side, equal, happy, and harmonious. There is diversity; there is unity.

Unity and Diversity -- Diversity Talks

A couple of days ago, I saw the newly enrolled freshmen in the military training under the glowing sun. They wear the same, move the same, eat the same, and sing together, they do everything under one same command without an exception. I could see sweet smiles on their faces though the heat of summer was melting them. Why? Because this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for

them to feel no different from others. No matter where you are from, rich or poor, boy or girl, you are part of this battalion; you are comparatively insignificant but absolutely irreplaceable.

This is a force. It’s unity.

We are the world because of unity. It enables the international co-operational manufacture by setting up unified standards for everything. A nail produced in China can be perfectly used in any corner of the world.

Therefore, it is unity that leads world into a perfect harmony!

However, don’t you think it’s a little bit boring with unity ruling the world only? What would you do if someone orders you to do whatever he does without allowing you to do what you really want? Apparently, you’ll be going nuts, because you are not leading a life of your own. So, to us, diversity talks!

Before I went to college, my dad asked me: son, did you think of being outstanding? If you want to be outstanding, you have to stand out, stand out of normal routine which other people consider the only way to success.

But dad’s words went in one ear and out the other! I had no idea whether dad was right or wrong until the day I found I was no longer myself. I put myself in a jar full of people. I work when they work, I panic when they panic, and I waste time when they waste time. This is no laughing matter but a horrible disaster. Afterwards, I kept telling myself: I am a student, and I do what a student should do. This is our unity. But does this mean we have to sacrifice our diversity to save the orderly image of unity? Not exactly! Unity stops us getting into chaos while diversity makes life colorful.

From then on, my long-covered specialty was evoked and set me on a special track to my dreams.

I got back what I had lost. It’s a great feeling that you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself: I found a part-time job as an oral-English teacher in a private school. I love English and work joyfully though my major has nothing to do with English at all. I stood out and made a difference. I found “I am what I am, and I am happy to be me.”

Ladies and gentlemen, one color is dull, but the combination of 7 colors is rainbow. Remember that you are no different, and this is how you get confident; engrave it in your heart that you are unique, and this is how you get successful! Thank you!

Dear teachers, good afternoon!

I am Erica. I would like to tell you my own story.

During the National Day my family went out for dinner. We went downstairs by lift, but after 1 minute the lift stopped suddenly, so we were trapped in it.

“I am scared, Mum!” I shouted, and my younger sister also cried. Dad called 110 for help. The policewoman was very kind and said “take it easy, the firefighter will come in 10 minutes.”

At the same time Mum let me sing a song with my sister. And we felt better while singing the ABC song.

Five minutes later, the door was opened by the firefighter.

“Dad, look! firefighters!” I shouted excitedly.

“Don’t worry, you are safe now.” the firefighter said to me like a hero. The firefighter saved us and I was deeply touched.

Now I want to be a hero, because I want to help more people!

That’s my story, thanks for your time.
