Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In twenty years’ time, people will lead a more leisurely life.
Main point: Disagree
Sub point1:
Sub point2:

4 Unit5 ----Longevity: Too Much of a Good Thing?
A doubled lifespan
If scientists could create a pill that let you live twice as long while remaining free of infirmities, would you take it?
If one considers only the personal benefits that longer life would bring, the answer might seem like a no-brainer : People could spend more quality time with loved ones; watch future generations grow up; learn new languages; master new musical instruments; try different careers or travel the world.
The workplace
For most people, living longer will inevitably mean more time spent working. Careers will necessarily become longer, and the retirement age will have to be pushed back, not only so individuals can support themselves, but to avoid overtaxing a nation’s social security system.
But such changes would carry their own set of dangers, critics say. Competition for jobs would become fiercer as “mid-life re-trainees” beginning new careers vie with young workers for a limited number of entry-level positions. Especially worrisome is the problem of workplace mobility, Callahan said. “If you have people staying in their jobs for 100 years, that is going to make it really tough for young people to move in and get ahead,” Callahan explained.
20年后我们会变得更加长寿,这就意味着我们的退休年龄push back了,在这种年轻人不断进入职场,而年长者延迟退休的情况下,是不是竞争压力要更大了呢?同时篇章中许多expressions是我们都可以学习的,eg. mid-life re-trainees人到中年再就业者;a limited number of entry-level positions有限的招聘岗位;
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is a waste of money for government to fund space travel and exploration.
Main point: Disagree
Sub point2: Space exploration是非常practical的一项投资,不能说是a waste of money.

3 Unit3----Exploring the Red Planet
MARS: OUR NEW HOME?
If you think you’d like to live on Mars, you may have that possibility by 2023. A Dutch company called Mars One will soon advertise for people interested in colonizing Mars. If you have all the necessary skills—and there are a lot—you could be one of the first colonists to Mars. Are you ready for the challenge?
As a future colonist in one of the six teams, you will go through years of training. If your team is the first team to travel to Mars, your main responsibility when you get there will be to build a place where humans can live. The atmosphere on Mars does not have enough oxygen for humans, and the land is not good enough to grow food. Colonists will have to create an artificial environment on Mars where there is air to breathe and land to farm. Scientists know Earth-like conditions can be simulated on Mars because something similar has already been done in Antarctica, where humans cannot survive outside the created environment.(对火星环境的具体描述&科学家们如何将其改造的适合人类居住。)
Humans may have another problem in space as well. It takes nearly a year to get to Mars, so travelers would be without the Earth’s gravity for a long time. In addition, Mars One astronauts will not return to Earth. Their mission is to start a colony that can support itself. So, the colonists will live the rest of their lives there. When a human lives in an environment without gravity or with low gravity for a long time, the systems in the body weaken. For example, muscles and bones lose strength. The heart also gets weaker. The blood in the body gets thicker, and it becomes more difficult for the heart to push blood through the body. Luckily, spinning the spaceship can create artificial gravity, and artificial gravity can ease these problems.(针对情况:我们的身体可能会遇到挑战,例如失重。)
It also will be difficult for Mars colonists to be isolated, far from home, living in small spaces, and seeing the same people over and over. It is important to come up with solutions to possible problems before anyone actually goes on a Mars mission. Colonists with depression could put the mission in danger. Fortunately, a few years ago, a joint Russian and European project called the Mars500 Mission took place. It studied people’s reactions to long-term space travel by following six astronauts in a Mars-like environment. The astronauts spent 520 days in this environment and only had contact with their bosses and their families. The six astronauts “returned” to the Earth in good physical condition—and still talking to each other. Scientists viewed the Mars500 Mission as a great success because they were able to see how the astronauts handle emotional and physical stresses. Surprisingly, the greatest emotional problem was boredom. The greatest physical problems were not getting enough sleep and gaining too much weight.
现在我们回到[Sub point2: Space exploration是非常practical的一项投资,不能说是a waste of money.]

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
In the past people were more friendly than they are today.
Main point: Agree

The telephone is also used by con men and women who try to impress people with amazing prizes and offers. Sometimes they will call and ask for your banking information so that they can put prize money into your account. If you do not trust a person contacting you by phone, ask for his or her name, business phone number, and company address. You can then contact the company yourself to learn whether or not you have reason to be suspicious.(电话诈骗有碰到过吗?
Modern communications technology has made it easier for people to trick you with fake deals and requests for information. When you go online, you find many websites offering products and services such as medical treatment and legal advice. How can you know if something is real? Fortunately, there are many organizations that can help you make sure that companies and individuals are treating you with honesty. If you believe that you are involved in a case of fraud, be sure to report it and ask for help.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The more money a person has, the more he or she should give away to the charities
Main point: Disagree

Task:“When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success.” Do you agree or disagree with the quotation above? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.
It is universally acknowledged that hard work is indispensable to success. Scientists toil for years before they make a major discovery. Students study for years before they are accepted by a top university. Self-make people work for a long time, even all their life before they make a fortune. However, less well-known is the essential role that luck plays in achieving one's goals. It is often luck that turns years of hard work into success: people discover and invent things with the help of luck, and so do they become famous and find jobs.
First, luck has helped a great number of people invent and discover things. Sir Alexander Fleming experimented with antibacterial substances for nine years before he discovered penicillin. He went through laborious trial and error, but it was on account of luck that he looked at the mold on a piece of cheese and got the idea for penicillin there and then. Benjamin Franklin had been trying to prove his idea that lightning and electricity is the same thing, but it was only in flying a kite that he proved it and the concept of a lightning rod happened to strike him.
Also, luck helps people become famous. Let us consider young authors. Many work hard to learn to write. For example, they take writing classes. Besides, they work at menial jobs so as to survive and gain experience. Then one day a lucky writer may have piece of writing published and attract public attention. Or the writer meets an editor at the right time and place. Years of continuous writing brings the writer to the door of success, but one lucky chance, like the shot in soccer, eventually helps him or her reap success.
Finally, luck has helped many people secure jobs. One may spend much time writing and sending resumes, reading recruiting ads, and going to job interviews. One may pond the pavement for a long time before getting a job. However, it is with luck that a job hunter meets the person who will offer a position to him or her, or learns of a vacancy that is not advertised. Being at the right place at the right time often helps one land a job, and this has all to do with luck. One can hardly succeed without hard work, but hard work without luck often leads to nothing. Luck has a great number of people find success. In fact, luck goes hand in hand with hard work.
When people move to another country, some of them decide to follow the customs of the newcountry. Others prefer to keep their own customs. Compare these two choices. Which one do youprefer? Support your answer with specific details.
Nowadays it is quite common for people to immigrate to ther countries. When they move, some ofthem decide to follow the customs of the new country while others prefer to keep their own. If I
were forced to agree with one of the two positions, my choice would be the illustrate my point, let us first take a look on why some people dislike the idea of following thecustoms of the new country. For one thing, these people are so accustomed to their own culture, religion and customs, and it is very hard for them to accept the new cultures. For instance, peoplefrom a Islamic country may find a lot of customs in western countries offensive.
Although I agree that some customs are hard to change, I insist that the advantages of adapting toa new culture are apparently seen. In the first place, by following the customs of the new country, you can learn about the country and understand the people more easily and become a realmember of the country. People who stick to their way of life may sometimes feel lonely andisolated. To share the same custom means that having more things in common, and it can pullpeople together. Furthermore, you have to adapt to some customs of the new country, if they arewritten into the law. As a result, it is much more sensible to do as the Roman do.
In conclusion,I believe that the advantages of following the customs of the new country is obviousbecause you can easily learn about the country and be a real member of it. What is more, you canlive more easily in a foreign country.
Some people believe that a college or university education should be available to all believe that higher education should be available only to good students. Discuss theseviews. Which view do you agree with? Explain why.
Both good and bad students should have the opportunity to attend college. Everyone should havea period to learn about themselves before they begin to work and earn money. An education is aninvestment in yourself and in your future. Good or bad, a student must decide to invest realmoney and real time.
Higher education is very expensive. It might seem like a waste of money to send someone tocollege who might not be able to handle the course work. Still, education is a valuable investmentin future career earnings. People with college degrees make more money and have moreopportunities later. If people have a desire to improve their lives, do we have the right to say no?Higher education is also a big investment of time. Some people think a weak student should get ajob and earn some money. They think poor students shouldn't waste their time at college. Butcollege is a time to meet different people, separate from your parents, and begin to define yourselfas a person. I think that's an experience every student should have.
I think every student should be given a chance to see how far she can go. Students who got poorgrades in high school might do very well in a different environment. College may be expensiveand take time, but it's an investment in one's self and one's future.
Students should spend at least one year working or travelling before they go to the university.
The prevailing notion is that high school students are under huge pressure. Then appears a controversy whether students should have one year to engage in other things before they attend their university. After weighing the pros and cons, I am favor of the opinion that having a gap year can produce many benefits.
First off, students can benefit a lot from traveling. As everyone knows, to maintain strong competitiveness, high school students are required to accomplish a wide range of either required or optional curriculums at school and the rights to develop their own interests have been deprived relentlessly, which has proven to be a detriment of their growth. Instead of pursuing their bachelor degree without pause in the college, traveling can help them regain chances to cultivate and perfect their personalities and release pressure. For instance, many more college graduates are reported to be indifferent to the society and show no mercy on those in need, part of which owes a lot to the fact that schools lay more emphasis on cultivating students’ academic abilities and downplay the importance of developing their overall qualities. Traveling to those places in poverty can give students a sight of those impoverished families to call on the sense of responsibility. Besides, by paying a visit to some places of interest like the Great Wall or the pyramid in Egypt, students can approach the greatness of diverse culture. What’s more, the direct access to the natural world can appease students’ inner uproar. Accordingly, a gap year can be a great asset for high school graduates.
Secondly, by taking part-time jobs, not only can students accumulate sufficient social experience but also earn some money to reduce financial stress on their families. Though economy in China keeps growing at a rate of almost 9 percent in the recent, average citizens still suffer huge pressure especially when the slump of stock market took a heavy toll on them and the majority of stock investors withdrew their money and reinvest to the real estate, further increasing pressure on the ordinary because of the increasing prices of housing. For most families from small cities and rural areas, college tuition still appears to be a great burden on them and by taking part-time jobs, students can earn some wages to relieve financial pressure, such as serving as a restaurant attendant that enables students to better develop their communication techniques and learn more about how to meet the demands of consumers or working as a salesman that will be an entirely different experience from high schools and can lead to the cultivation of the ability of presenting customers the advantages of products. Obviously, a gap year means a lot to high school graduates.
Admittedly, there is another voice that high school students are supposed to start their campus life immediately after graduation from high schools. To be more specific, maintaining high-efficiency study can lead students to be better acclimated to their college life. Instead of going to college soon, a gap year may disrupt their study schedule and weaken their learning skills. It appears to be sensible, however; the ultimate goal of attending a university is to seek a decent job and gaining social experience in advance makes students more conscious of which kind of area they are more interested in in the near future such as the serving industry or high-tech fields.
In conclusion, high school graduates had better live a different life temporarily before they go to college.
写的挺好的,评分的话不好说,但以现在托福的标准的话,应该不错吧,不过建议你不用刻意写长句,比如the students should consider the question about whether they really need the technology as their helper discreetly before they take action so that they can utilize the technology most efficiently while the technology itself will not jeopardize them.

If a large factory is going to be built near your community, is it good or bad? It’s a quite difficult question to answer. Because there are many aspects to take into your consideration, the advantages and the disadvantages. Let’s talk about that.
First, a large factory, especially a large chemical factory is quite harmful to our environment when it is built near our community. It will affect our daily life a lot. All the chemical factories will produce a lot of waste and most of the wastes are harmful to the environment, including poisonous gas and liquid. Some of them can not be entirely broken down. If they are released into the air or the river, it will affect our health. And also the factory may produce a lot of noise. The environment we want to live in is a quiet and peaceful one, so the noise will be quite boring. And yes, noise also affects our health.
Still one thing, a factory can be very dangerous. Because a fire or a explosion may break out in the factory. If it’s very near our home, it’s quite dangerous.
But in other hand , a factory may be a good news to us. It can provide more jobs for us, especially for the young people in our community. Since the factory is near, it’s so convenient to go to work.. and the factory will get more chances to our area. It will help to develop our area. So if the factory can bring us a lot of chances, we will agree to build one. But the most important things are:
1. Build the factory in a safe distance from our community, not too near.
2. Make sure that the factory can deal with the waste properly. Do not release the poisonous gas
into the air, and not release the waste water into the river nearby.
3. Make sure the security guard in the factory works very well.
